5-2-08 It is an exciting day!!!!!! We arrived to school today to see 11 chicks have hatched. We have a mix of yellow chicks, black chicks, and yellow and black chicks. We will have the chance to watch them grow over the next few weeks. We have also been busy reading more "Flat Stanley" chapter books and learning about plants. Ms. Barraro's last day is next Friday. Please send in $4.00 so we may present her with a gift to remember the class by. Thank you, have a nice day.

4-12-08 We have been very busy doing a lengthy study of the weather and have now concluded that unit. We will, however, continue to follow our weather study with the states each child has chosen to record in their weather journals. We will begin a unit on maps, the U.S.A. and Flat Stanley on Monday, April 14th for two weeks. We will then work on a unit on plants and conclude the year with a variety of author studies. We have enjoyed having fifth grade readers from Mrs. Armstrong's I.L.A. classes. They have been working with our class on story retelling, beginnng, middle and end, characters, setting, and story vocabulary. It has been a wonderful experience for both the fifth and first graders. We also had Mrs. Meyer's 3rd grade class read us their rhymes they have created after a study on Dr. Seuss. The third graders enjoyed helping the first graders identify rhymes. We have also said good-bye to Alex and Gabriela and wish them well in their new schools, and have welcomed Joe and Luis to our class. All in all it has been a busy start of spring. Enjoy the new pictures on the picture page.

2/19/08 Hello all, Sorry I haven't been updating the website recently, I have had trouble accessing it at home and therefore limiting my time to update. We have been very busy since the new year. We have been working on the arctic regions. The class really enjoyed studying penguins. There penguin projects were awesome!! We also enjoyed the 100th day projects. We are now concentrating on the North Pole and the animals and climate there. We made blubber mittens and did an experiment to see how blubber keeps animals warm. We also did a polar blanket experiment that demonstrated how fur and feathers keeps animals warm. Next, we will then discuss how animals survive in the winter. Then begin a unit on the Iditarod sled dog race. Please check out the picture page. I have added pictures from the penguin projects, 100 day projects and our penguin play. Have a great day. Mrs. Milite :)
