Bridge Designer
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is the agency that is responsible for all the bridges, tunnels, and the PATH trains in the metropolitan area. They have determined that there is currently too much traffic over the George Washington Bridge. They are planning for the construction of a new bridge over the Hudson River to meet the needs of the expected increase in traffic in the future. As a bridge designer, you have been selected to plan, design, and construct the new bridge connecting New York and New Jersey.

Do you think people in other parts of the world use more or less water than Americans? Well, this collaborative project will help you find out the answers to these questions. I WANT A NEW FLOOR!!!!
The flooring in your bedroom is lime green and you HATE it. You need to convince your parents to replace it. Determine the cost of new carpeting or tile, and decide which one would be best in your room. Once you have all your information, write a letter to your parents with your choice. Use the facts to persuade them to give you a new floor.

PEMDAS
Mrs. Freeman just tested her 7th graders. They are still having trouble using the “order of operations”. It seems that when Mrs. Freeman placed a problem on the board many students got different answers and many of them argued that they were correct. We have been asked to simplify this problem. Please, write a letter to a student in 7th grade explaining the “order of operations” and include examples and a “hook” to help them understand and remember.
